CASEOUS CALCIFICATION OF MITRAL ANNULUS
Caseous calcification of the mitral annulus (MA) is the mitral annular calcification rare form. Its etiology has not been understood completely resulting in an erroneous diagnosis of intracardiac tumor. The authors describe the cases of the MA caseous calcification in female patients. Round, echogenic images with a central echolucentarea were identified by transthoracic echocardiography on the lateral and posterior segments of the mitral annulus. The mitral annulus caseous transformation can be accompanied by various bradyarrhythmias and atrioventricular blocks. It is characterized by specific echocardiographic signs and requires a differential diagnosis taking into account a possibility of a heart tumor presence.
